Walk for Suicide Prevention Awareness Month (September)
With September being Suicide Prevention Awareness month, Healthy Carolinians of Orange County (HCOC) is working to bring awareness to this serious health issue. As a result, HCOC will be hosting its 2nd suicide prevention awareness walk. The walk will be held on Friday, September 21st from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at Gold Park and the River Walk, in Hillsborough.
This year’s speaker will be Phillip J. Roundtree, MSW, MS, founder of Quadefy LLC. Roundtree’s message speaks to “resilience through coping” and is driven by his professional and personal experiences. His transparency, as it relates to his personal journey in coping with depression, anxiety, and multiple suicide attempts gives a face, voice, and hope to those who’ve yet to recognize their emotional and cognitive strength. He ¬¬will share ways to help prevent suicide by learning to recognize the signs and symptoms. As a visual reminder of the 64 Orange County citizens who lost their lives to suicide from 2012 to 2016, 64 pairs of donated shoes will be on display. To donate shoes, please let me know. After the walk the shoes will be donated to the Club NOVA Thrift Shop.
Attached, you will find the flyer. Please share this opportunity with your networks and I hope to see you on September 21st.
